In the XVIII century The theme formed a separate genre. Kyiv landscapes were painted by masters of painting: Taras Shevchenko, Mykhailo Sazhyn, Vasyl Sternberg, Mykola Pimonenko, Oleksandr Bohomazov, and many other famous artists. Nowadays, the topic of cityscape has been devalued by street vendors and reduced to the idea that Kyiv's landscape is exclusively souvenir painting. The theme of an urban, recognizable landscape of the Ukrainian capital is practically given to the tourist service industry. Meanwhile, the public regularly voices its demand for works of the highest quality in various artistic doctrines and ideologies, but specifically dedicated to our capital. So, we declare: "Kyiv landscape by famous masters exists!".
"Kyiv Landscape" - is an unprecedented project that presents the largest exhibition of Kyiv landscape in the history of Ukraine with a biannual cycle of two years and an ambitious goal to show the beauty of Kyiv, to feel its uniqueness, to trace how the city is transforming through the historical optics of artists of different generations.
The artistic interpretation of the capital's landscape will be a unique opportunity for visitors and Kyiv residents to get acquainted with the city and emphasize its tourist appeal. The event will help to promote a positive perception of the city during the international Eurovision Song Contest and Kyiv Art Week.
The best works were provided from their collections: The Museum of Kyiv History, the National Art Museum, the Kyiv Art Gallery, famous contemporary artists and private collectors.
The first exhibition as a part of project was opened on 12 of August 2016 at the Karas Gallery.
As part of the project, the largest exhibition of art works of Kyiv landscape in the entire history of Ukraine was opened from April 27 to May 24, 2017 at the Museum of Kyiv History. Visitors had a unique opportunity not only to see all the beauty of Kyiv, but also to observe how the city is transforming through the prism of the works of artists of different generations. This was mentioned in a comment to TRK "Kyiv" by Hanna Starostenko the Deputy Head of Kyiv City State Administration during a visit to the exhibition.
