
In order to summarize current Ukrainian landscape art expiriance, the curator of the Karas Gallery Yevhen Karas created the project "Ukrainian Landscape" in 2014. Alongside art critic Oleksandr Solovyov about 500 works by more than 100 Ukrainian contemporary artists were selected.
The Ukrainian landscape becomes an important tool for the nation's self-awareness. Its show the reflection of theme of the value of choice and the search for identity. After all the landscape genre as the depiction of country's land is a symbol of state unity. It is the visual image of the landscape that comes to mind in most cases when a person thinks about the Motherland.
The project was exhibited at Mystetskyi Arsenal together with several exhibitions under the unifying title "Ukrainian Landscape. The Other Side of Despair" from August 21 to September 7, 2014.
The total area of the exhibition space occupied by the Ukrainian Landscape project reached 8000 square meters. The project featured almost all styles and trends from realism to abstractionism and all techniques, from slate drawing to installation and digital art, from 6-meter-long paintings to drawings on office paper with a ballpoint pen.
